ADOPTION PROCESS, REQUIREMENTS, VETTING, TRANSPORTATION, and ADOPTION DONATIONS
Please understand that AFTLOA does not operate on a "first come, first serve" basis and does not take the process lightly.
AFTLOA does not place adoptions of "puppies" under the age of 3 months of age who have not received all 3 puppy booster shots and who have not been spayed or neutered. We have learned the hard way that placing small puppies who have a weak immune system into a stressful situation only causes them more harm than good.
AFTLOA does not have any "specific" requirements to adopt. Each individual Angel has individual personalities and require different needs, and we will determine the best suitable home based on those qualities.
To be considered as a potential adopter of one of our Angels, you must follow the following process.
*Submission of a Detailed Application - while lengthy and seemingly personal, the application process is the most important part of the process to determine the Angel(s) of interest would be a suitable match to a perspective home/family. Our goal is to ensure that both the adoptive families and their new additions are happy and that a successful adoption is being placed.
*Reference Checks - Veterinary and/or Personal
*Phone Interview - a phone interview allows us the opportunity to ask any additional questions , to answer your questions or address any concerns you might have, and to schedule a Home Inspection.
*Home Inspection - if you do not agree to or feel comfortable about a home inspection, please do not submit an application with our organization. As of 2012, a Home Inspection is required for all approved applicants wishing to move forward with their adoption. A Home Inspection solely serves the purpose of validating information given on the application and to confirm residency. Home Inspections are performed by a trusted AFTLOA Rep or Volunteer.
*Finalizing Your Adoption - Once the above process have been completed and you have been selected as a new Adoptive Parent/Family we will begin the process of finalizing your adoption and making transport arrangements for the Angel(s) of interest if needed. Finalizing your adoption will include signing of a legally binding contract and submission of your Adoption Donation.
*Follow Ups - If you were granted the opportunity to adopt AFTLOA Angel, we have entrusted you with a piece of our heart. Once you adopt an AFTLOA Angel, you have kind of adopted us, too! :- ) You have become a part of our growing family and we wish to stay in touch throughout the Angel's lives. Pictures are not optional, they are a MUST!!! :- ) We love our adoptive families to the moon and back!!!
***RETURN POLICY***
AFTLOA makes a lifetime commitment to the animals we rescue and share an emotional bond with each of them, therefore we have a very STRICT return policy. We WILL take them back!!!
While returns are a very rare case for our organization, in the event something may not work out or an Adopter cannot keep any adopted animal(s) for any reason whatsoever at any given time during that animal's life it is to be returned to AFTLOA Pet Rescue, Inc. NO exceptions.
*ADOPTION FEES -AFTLOA does not charge a "fee" to adopt however, each individual Angel will have an agreed upon Adoption Donation. All Donations are Tax-Deductible, but are Non-refundable.
AFTLOA also provides additional care and/or treatment for the Angels we take into our care upon entering our rescue such as Heart Worm treatment, Surgery, Mange Treatment, ect. and such additional care and/or treatment is NOT reflected in your Adoption Donation. If you would like to help an animal currently receiving veterinary care, please see the DONATE tab!
Please know that while each animal's health is our organizations main priority, AFTLOA Pet Rescue, Inc. can make no guarantees as far as a perfectly healthy animal and highly recommends to each adoptive parent take their newly adopted animal(s) to their personal veterinarian within 2-3 weeks upon adoption for a routine examination which should include a fecal examination.

TRANSPORTATION
***Please Note that we are currently not placing adoptions in the states of CT and New Hampshire due to their strict 2 week quarantine requirement upon arrival into the state. At this time, we feel it is too stressful to put our animals through that not to mention the costs involved, but who knows what the feature may hold!***
AFTLOA currently works with My Buddies Transport ( East Coast - ground), Kindred Hearts (leg ground), and is also partnered with Pilots N' Paws (US - aviation) to ensure that our Angels arrive safely to their receiving families.
AFTLOA takes pride in knowing that these transportation organizations are reputable and we wouldn't trust anyone else! Their love and compassion truly glows for each animal that they transport! Below is a slideshow of some pictures we have taken when seeing our Angels off on their new journeys!

LOCATIONS
AFTLOA currently does not have a public facility at this time, however we wish to have one in the future with your support! Our "home base" is situated on 50 beautiful acres in the Upstate of South Carolina where most of the animals are currently located until such time a home is chosen and they are adopted by a loving family. PLEASE do not let the long distance detour you from giving one of our Angels a chance at a new life. We will go above and beyond for these Angels if it means them finding a forever, loving home and to ensure a successful adoption is placed.
