Please familiarize yourself with your specific states importation laws and the vaccinations required when entering your state. Since laws have changed since we first started into rescue, we unfortunately currently no longer place adoptions, except on a specially considered individual basis, into states requiring quarantine boarding upon entering the state due to the stress of the animals and the additional costs involved. |
VET SERVICES PROVIDED FOR EACH ANIMAL PRIOR TO ADOPTION:
*Spay/Neuter *Permanent Micro-Chip *Negative Heart Worm Test *Required Vaccinations *Physical Exam *Fecal Exam *Health Certification AFTLOA has each animal implanted with a permanent micro-chip that, as part of your adoption agreement, will permanently hold our information as the secondary contact should it be scanned by a veterinary or shelter facility. This will not only ensure the return of your animal should they become missing or stolen, but also to ensure the return of the animal to our organization in the event an adoptive family is unable to keep said animal. Please also refer to our Return Policy. AFTLOA does not administer lyme and lepto vaccinations for the dogs it adopts out. AFTLOA does not conduct blood profiles for our animals, unless recommended by our veterinarians. AFTLOA does not conduct DNA tests on the animals it adopts out. We use information provided by the shelters, veterinarians and volunteers to give a best estimate to the animal's breed. As a result, we cannot guarantee the exact breed of any AFTLOA animal. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each animal. The first thing every adopter should do is secure a health insurance policy for their adopted animal. We, as well as our adoptive families, highly recommend VPI Pet Insurance. Intestinal parasites are a common problem for dogs, especially young dogs and puppies. They often require multiple dewormings to ensure you dog is worm free. We currently use Panacure dewormer and recently changed our 3 day deworming protocol to 5 days. All animals are dewormed prior to transport as a precautionary measure. If a medical concern arises we may be able to help. Some conditions are not observed in a foster animal until they transition to a new home. We ask our adoptive families to reach out to us if anything happens medically so we can offer assistance. We cannot reimburse you for vet bills or guarantee the health of any animal. |
